With the new ‘LUNAR’ collection WILLIAM FAN once again refers to the personal history of the designer by thematizing the Asian ‘Lunar New Year’ festival, which marks a new lunisolar calendar year and the beginning of Spring. The fond memories of this event are manifested in the designs and the presentation concept, overall inviting to join the festivities. Thus, by indulging in yesterday’s nostalgia, the new ready-to-wear collection characterizes family reunions, celebrating shared values, new beginnings, and long-lasting traditions.
The prominent Asian influences are embraced in the different floral and abstract brocades. With their delicate interwoven gold threads they are reminiscent of precious traditional gowns, worn to special occasions. Cut as a coat or blazer, the distinctive material becomes form-giving and combines elegance with snugness.
Composed of red, brown, black, and cream this collection’s color palette is closely intertwined with the color scheme of classic Chinese interior design elements. In the form of soothing silk, pure virgin wool, and exquisite knits they complement the unisex collection whilst enhancing the detailed designs. The individual looks are defined by distinguishing mandarin collars, qipao elements, and extravagant lapels. Moreover, the collection exclusively revisits several wardrobe staples, dipping them into vibrant red and hence reinterpreting the already familiar styles. As a central color in Chinese culture, red embodies happiness and joy and plays a significant role, especially on important holidays.
The playful embellishments seen in the previous season give way to monochrome styling and therefore accentuate the sharp cuts of the various designs. The contrasting graphic glen check pattern adds depth and balance to the decorative brocades and monochromatic looks.
Intricately interlaced red leather belts with the WILLIAM FAN logo in Chinese lettering are a continuation of their preceding styles. Silk scarves printed with new motifs complete the accessories, adding the final touch to the styling. Depicted are the Asian zodiacs which are viewed as an equivalent to the European zodiac signs. However, instead of the monthly changing Western star signs, the Asian zodiacs change annually, repeating itself every twelve years and with each year its designated animal sign. With this year’s celebration of the rabbit - William’s birth sign - the personal attachment to the topic is even more prominent and forms the basis for a profound conversation.
